One out of every six adult males in the United States struggle with the embarrassment of Gynecomastia. Gynecomastia refers to the development of woman-like breasts in men and may generate self-consciousness and draw unwanted attention. However, with a male breast reduction men are now able to treat this condition. Dr. Kalantarian has extensive training and experience with male breast reduction procedures and proudly serves Orange County and Los Angeles.
What is a Male Breast Reduction?

Who is a Good Candidate for Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia can occur for several reasons. One obvious reason is weight gain, but sometimes medications or hormonal imbalance may be to blame. If a male’s body produces excessive estrogen the breasts may become overdeveloped. Certain prescription medications, such as sleep aids, and drugs, including steroids, may cause enlarged breasts in men. For optimal results it is recommended for patients to see an endocrinologist to ensure their gynecomastia is not caused by a medical problem. Patients should attempt weight loss through diet and exercise, as well as avoid any drugs that can cause Gynecomastia, before seeking surgical remedies.
What Can I Expect Before, During, and After Male Breast Reduction Surgery
The first step the surgeon performs in a male breast reduction procedure is liposuction. In some cases, liposuction alone may be enough to restructure the chest area and reduce breast size. In some cases it is necessary to remove glandular breast tissue and excess skin to correct oversized male breasts, in which case the surgeon will cut away the excess tissue.Incision size and location will vary depending on the patient’s breast size and expectations. It is common for patients to wear a compression garment in the days following surgery. Oral pain medications will be prescribed as needed, and tubes may be inserted to aid in fluid drainage.
